What is a crisis?

What is a crisis?

“A crisis is a situation in which something or someone is affected by one or more very serious problems.”

Collins Dictionary definition.

Expanding on the above dictionary definition, a personal crisis can be defined as any significant life changing event or set of circumstances that thrust you out of your life as you know it and into a world of confusion, chaos and turmoil. The path into a crisis can be very different for everyone however, the thoughts and emotions are the same;

· Is this really happening?

· What did I do to deserve this?

· I just don’t know what to do?

· I can’t believe this is happening?

· How am I going to get out of this?

· Where are all the people I thought I could count on?

· And so on….

It is so often that the events that lead us into crisis can happen so quickly, by the time we realise we are in trouble, we are already in rough seas. Life as you know it can change in the blink of an eye without any warning and suddenly you are in a crisis fighting for your life.

The good news is that with some basic tools of self awareness and self empowerment, you can transcend your crisis without having to hit rock bottom and you can restore and rebuild your life. Most often, your life post crisis is far better than the one before because, out of the toughest challenges, come the greatest growth.
